Māui & Hector’s Dolphin Defenders NZ started this petition to call upon the government to take immediate action to protect the dwindling Hector’s and Māui dolphin populations. Hector’s dolphins are classified as ‘Endangered’ and Māui dolphins are classified as ‘Nationally Critical’ on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species.
2) ‘Justice for Huda and her Friends’ on Change.org – https://www.change.org/…/nz-police-justice-for-huda-and…. Justice for Huda started this petition to call for action to be taken against the three bullies who attacked Hoda Al-Jamaa (aged seventeen) and her friends at Otago Girls High School on the 9th of February 2022. Hoda ended up in hospital with a concussion after three pupils ripped her hijab off and beat her. “Two of the girls held me and one hit me and after I fell on the ground, she … was still hitting my face and my body. I was waiting for the teacher to help me,” Hoda told RNZ. “My hijab … is my culture and my religion. My hijab is everything for me and I love my hijab and those other girls love their hijabs.”
3) ‘Protect Endangered New Zealand Sea Lion’ on Change.org – https://www.change.org/…/protect-endangered-new-zealand…. SEA SOCIETY started this petition to call upon the Clutha District Council to restrict vehicles on two beaches in The Catlins, to protect New Zealand sea lions/pakake. Pakake are classified as ‘Endangered’ on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species. Vehicles and BMX bikes cause pakake distress and can cause the separation of cow and pup.
