‘Tis the Season… for New Zealand sea lion/pakake cows to give birth. For those associated with pakake, It’s the Most
Wonderful Time of the Year, and the busiest.
During December and March every year, heavily pregnant cows, new mums, and their pups are particularly vulnerable to bulls and humans interference.
Please give these taonga species space and respect – at least 10 meters and keep your dogs on a leash when in proximity to pakake. 10 meters is the equivalent of 10 strides, a school bus, a squash court, or a 3-storey house.
Pakake are yours, and mine to protect and care for. If we all do our part, a beautiful summer will be had by all.
