NZ Functional Foods plans to build a carbon-neutral plant-based food processing factory at Makarewa.
A plant-based milk factory in New Zealand will reduce the huge costs of transporting New Zealand oats overseas to be processed and then returned to consumers here.
At present, Otis Oat Milk oats are grown in Gore, milled in Dunedin, processed into milk in Sweden and then the milk is returned to New Zealand.
Otis co-founder Chris Wilkie said “The country is calling out for a facility like this.”
