Plastic Phase Out

Plastic Phase Out

New Zealander’s have debated and acted to increase reusable materials, better recycle, correctly dispose of rubbish waste and, like some of the actions carried out by Sea Society, even collect waste improperly disposed of in natural areas. Tackling the root cause is important and, then prioritizing REDUCING, avoiding over-consumption and production. So, this Plastic Free July, we are going to talk more about the New Zealand Government’s Plastic Phase Out Plan. Measures to phase out plastics have been adopted in other parts of the world, and New Zealand’s plan will cover hard-to-recycle plastics and single-use items. This is another important step to dealing with this great environmental challenge, after the Plastic Bag Ban was implemented in 2019. The Plastic Phase Out Plan has been divided into three phases so that businesses and consumers can adapt. Following this aim, New Zealand’s plan also comprises the Plastics Innovation Fund to help support projects that reimagine how we make, use and dispose of plastics.
