Just Stop Oil is an organisation that has been demanding the UK government create an international, legally binding treaty to end the extraction and burning of oil and coal by 2030. In November 2022, Just Stop Oil co-founder Roger Hallam, Daniel Shaw, Louise Lancaster, Lucia Whittaker De Abreu, and Cressida Gethin agreed to cause disruption to traffic by having 45 protesters climb onto gantries over the M25 highway that encircles London over four days. In July 2024, a judge sentenced Hallam to five years’ imprisonment and the other four to four years imprisonment – a collective 21 years!
Bruce Mahalski has been a peaceful protestor for the environment and wildlife for decades. Via his murals, illustrations, comic strips, and music, he has fought for anti-nuclear weapons in Aotearoa New Zealand, wildlife rights, climate change action, and ending coal usage. On the 31st of July 2024, Bruce is going to court for attempting to stop coal trains.
