New Zealand has many stunning spots worth travelling too; as the nzherald.co.nz has identified one of these spots is the Clutha Region in the South Island. There you will discover beautiful beaches, unique landscapes, and rare and endangered wildlife. One of these rare and endangered wildlife is New Zealand sea lions/pakake, who are magnificent to view in person and you may be lucky enough to witness a bull or cow sea lion sandbathing when you visit a Clutha Region beach. You will likely also have to watch out for cars and BMX bikes tearing up and down the beach; however, we are trying to change this by proposing the Clutha District Council restrict vehicles on TWO beaches in The Catlins in the Clutha Region.
Clutha District Council Catlins Ward Dane Catherwood grew up in Rotorua and fell in love with Owaka after visiting in 2007. In January 2020, he informed Stuff he has a passion for Owaka and its tourism potential, “This is a beautiful place. The tourists were coming through here but they didn’t stop. Let’s give them something to stop for. I didn’t have to build it. It was already there.” Sea lions and other endangered wildlife are part of Owaka’s tourism potential.
