Waitangi Day

On the 6th of February 1840 (183 years ago), an agreement: the Treaty of Waitangi / Te Tiriti o Waitangi was made between the British Crown and about 540 Māori Rangatira.

Te Tiriti o Waitangi was intended to unite the British Crown and Māori; however, different versions and understandings of the Treaty and breaches of it naturally caused conflict.

We are a team of five plus million in Aotearoa.

We must actively listen.

We must educate ourselves. Go watch ‘Whina’, which follows the story of respected kuia and trailblazer Dame Whina Cooper. Check out Te Wiki o te Reo Māori and Ako Panuku, they are great resources.

We must promote Te Reo, Aotearoa’s native language.

We must withhold judgement and spread aroha.
